Accessing the NFSA collection
One of the National Film and Sound Archive’s (NFSA) primary responsibilities is to foster creativity and stimulate interest in the cultural richness and diversity of our audiovisual cultural heritage. The NFSA offers many ways for people to view, listen to, study, use and enjoy material including from it own substantial collection. The NFSA collection is a holding of 1.3 million audiovisual works and information about the audio, film, television, new media artists and industries.
Access to the collection is provided in response to domestic and international audience and client demand for professional and personal research, screening, broadcast and the reproduction of new programs. The National Collection can be searched directly online at nfsa.gov.au. Experienced reference staff are also available to provide assistance in finding material.
The NFSA National Collection is also the source of much of NFSA’s innovative and integrated public programs such as exhibition, performance works, screenings, outreach activities, events and products, alone or in partnership with other cultural institutions, industry partners, or community organisations.
