Indigenous protocols

Protocols define appropriate ways of using Indigenous cultural material, and interacting with Indigenous people and their communities. They encourage ethical conduct and promote interaction based on good faith and mutual respect.

australianscreen is committed to adhering to protocols established as a first point of reference when working with sound and image produced by, with or about Indigenous peoples. australianscreen has ongoing consultancy with necessary authorities on issues relating to Indigenous protocols when curating Indigenous material for the australianscreen site.

In curating sound and image works produced by or about Indigenous peoples, australianscreen refers to the Indigenous Curatorial Branch of the National Film and Sound Archive, The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the Indigenous Branch of Screen Australia as primary authorities.
