Clip description

The seasons change and Willie Wombat realises he’s going to need food for the winter. He tries to ‘withdraw’ some food from the bank.

Curator’s notes

It’s quite clear from this clip that Eric Porter, still a young filmmaker at the time, was experimenting with his own particular style of animation. Either for reasons of budget or purely a process of trial and error, the film incorporates a couple of different cell animation background techniques. From scene to scene the backgrounds vary between simple painted cels and photographed 3-D models. Backgrounds are credited to Norma Richards and models to Stan Clements.

Similarly the snippets of rhyming narration, articulating maternal insight, sit somewhat uneasily amongst the animal characters’ sync dialogue. No narrator is credited.
