Clip description

At her work, cleaning offices, Dana (Basia Bonkowski) breaks down and confides to the nightwatchman (Martin Vaughan) that she’s not heard from her husband in Poland for quite some time. He reassures her and invites her to come to his place for lunch one Sunday.

Curator’s notes

The lonely and isolated Dana is forced to bring her baby, Helenka, to work with her everyday. Dana cleans an office premises at night and the only other human being present is the nightwatchman – an equally lonely fellow who has nothing to do except chat to Dana while she’s trying to work. It’s an intimate moment between the two, whose relationship up until that point has been somewhat awkward. Martin Vaughan, already an established actor at the time, demonstrates why he continued after this film with a long and successful career.
