clip Plonk in trouble

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Dr Plonk (Nigel Lunghi) is wanted for terrorism in 2007. Spotted by two police officers (Jo-Ann Lancaster, Simon Yates), he leads them on a chase through the city.

Curator’s notes

This chase scene recalls the Keystone Kops comedies produced by Mack Sennett between 1912 and 1917. Like Sennett’s flatfoots, the policewoman and policeman attempting to catch Dr Plonk are bumbling incompetents who bang into each other, allowing the wanted man to make a getaway. The difference here is the charge levelled against the fleeing suspect. Dr Plonk is falsely accused of the very contemporary crime of terrorism, a hot political topic at the time the film was made.
