Veteran trainer Lester (Gandhi MacIntyre) tells young boxer Skip (Noah Taylor) about the injury that ended his career.
Curator’s notes
Boxing movies are love stories between men. In this beautifully written and performed scene Lester describes the physical and emotional impact of having his shot at the title ruined by injury. Lester sees himself in the young fighter and tells his story in the manner of a father offering a life lesson to his son. Billed ninth in the credits, unheralded Sri Lankan-born character actor Gandhi MacIntyre is superb as he talks about ‘the one that got away’.
Thanks to the generosity of the rights holders, we are able to offer Lester’s story from the feature film Dead to the World as a high quality video download.
