Jared (Laurence Breuls) and Rachel (Jessica Napier) are both agitated: Rachel because she found Tracy (Bojana Novakovic) after she had been killed, Jared because he knows he should have acted to save her. It dawns on Rachel that Jared was somehow involved in what happened. Rachel’s parents arrive. They have just learnt that their son Toby was one of four arrested for Tracy’s sexual assault.
Curator’s notes
The real-life case that sparked Blackrock drew enormous media interest. It wasn’t just because of the nature of the crime, but also what led up to it, namely a 16th birthday party at which kids as young as ten were drinking. The crime also sparked a number of inquiries into the actions of the police. The film is a work of fiction and nearly a decade had passed by the time it was released but even so it drew criticism for resurrecting the event. It is challenging to make a film inspired by real events and not be painted as being about those events.
Thanks to the generosity of the rights holders, we are able to offer Jared in despair from the feature film Blackrock as a high quality video download.
