Clip description
Back on the streets and while under the influence of heroin, Cheryl tells us her story. She was raped by her father at 10 years of age, had a child and her mother threw her out of home at aged twelve. She didn’t want to live anymore and contemplated suicide. She tearfully pleads with teenage girls not to be seduced into a life of prostitution and drugs.
Curator’s notes
By turns angry, tearful and bitterly sad, Cheryl accuses the interviewer and film crew of lying to her and using her. She is ambivalent about telling her personal story on camera. She and the interviewer discuss whether she wants to do it or not. Cheryl states that as a drug addict and prostitute and a 'soft’ person, she is vulnerable to being used by men. She includes the filmmakers in the group of people 'using her’.
