Listen! We have sound.

We are thrilled that ASO is publishing sound titles for the first time today. See them listed in all their glory with a vivid overview on the collection page by Vincent Plush. These iconic sounds are from the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia Registry of Recorded sound.

Making the NFSA’s sound collection more accessible is a priority and publishing sound on ASO is part of a bigger project funded by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program that will also tour a selection of sounds in an original show ‘Cooee Cabaret’ to regional destinations.

It’s been an interesting challenge to bend the ASO mould to sound, forcing us to explore the differences between sound and video, curatorially and technically, as well as thinking about what people expect of ASO and how does sound fit into that? Do you want Australian screen and Australian sound all together or in separate spaces? Tell us what you think.

  1. Fabulous initiative. Audio exercises the brain, focusing ideas and allowing the imagination flight.
