International Women’s Day

This year marks the 99th International Women’s Day, an event celebrated as an official holiday in countries like China, Russia, Bulgaria and Vietnam. This year’s theme for Australia is Unite to End Violence Against Women.

Australia has a strong tradition of independent feminist filmmaking. This week’s home page celebrates the work of filmmakers like Erika Addis, Robin Laurie, Margaret Dodd, Jeni Thornley, Margot Nash and Gillian Leahy. We Aim to Please and This Woman is Not a Car both offer powerful and creative critiques of violence against women.
