Clip description

Opening titles then an aerial point of view of broadcast towers, suburbia and cityscape as Robert (Mathew Dyktynski) in voice-over contemplates the ‘illusion of choice’. Settling finally on the warehouse which contains fledgling community radio station Raw FM, we enter to experience the launch party in full swing. Granger (Dominic Purcell) and Zelda (Nadine Garner) are amongst the crowd dancing to the sounds of DJ Sarah (Elena Mandalis) as she fulfils her potential.

This opening sequence sets up both the voice and style of this 1990s cutting-edge youth series. Distant suburban scenes viewed from high above are contrasted with the angst-ridden voice of ‘anarchist’ Robert declaring that freedom of choice is an ‘illusion’.

This opening is then juxtaposed with the energy, music and chaos of what will later turn out to be a taste of the launch of Raw FM. This sequence also provides a glimpse of the other main protagonists in the series, wannabe DJ Sarah, ex-radio jock Granger and the feisty Zelda.
