Time for a throw out

Original classification rating: PG. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Arthur (Garry McDonald) is trying to persuade his reluctant mother, Maggie (Ruth Cracknell) to throw out some of her old tights. Older brother Robbie (Henri Szeps) arrives with a most uncharacteristic offer to take his mother for a drive.

Curator’s notes

Hoarding and refusing to part with old possessions can be a characteristic of demetia, and writer Geoffrey Atherden finds the gentle comedy in this situation. Maggie’s bedroom is a jumble of things that need to be sorted through and washed. Arthur would like nothing better than to make her room more airy by removing some of the mess. When brother Robbie arrives with an offer to take his mother for a drive, the ensuing bickering nicely observes a family dealing with an aged parent.
