Clip description

Hunting the Not Fair is an animated feature story. Young Billy Blair complains about all the things in his life that are unfair. He creates a machine to trap the ‘Not Fair’, so he can play cricket without interference. Feeling invincible, Billy wins the match for his team but when he opens the box to show off the ‘Not Fair’, it’s empty.

Curator’s notes

Hunting the Not Fair is a rapid-fire and delightful story about fairness, which also explores the sub-theme of using your mind. This is a rich story with lots of ideas to explore and discuss with a child. Unusually for children’s’ television, it has a brief smacking scene as part of Billy’s litany of everything that is unfair in his life. The characters are made of plasticine and set against a stylised background, with some drawings. Young authors and animation artists from all over Australia participated in this project, giving Lift Off a real sense of freshness and originality.
