Clip description

Elvis Maginnis (Marcus Graham) is on the lookout for clues as to who killed his girlfriend’s husband, Noel Pomeroy, a car dealer. His first stop is Pomeroy’s old enemy Athol Amoroso (Tommy Dysart).

Meanwhile, Stella Kinsella (Alison Whyte) heads to the Builders Arms to confront Sancia Delmorris (Wilhelmina Stracke), the woman who is suing Stella and Elvis’s business K for Kleen for allegedly shrinking her dress.

Curator’s notes

This sequence gives an entertaining nod to a popular advertising campaign of the ‘90s that featured Tommy Dysart as a Goggomobil owner trying to find a mechanic. It also shows Elvis on the trail of clues typical for a fictional detective. In Good Guys Bad Guys the sequence of clues and coincidences is often a little far-fetched – but this is all part of the fun.

The transitions leading into each scene show camera effects of a type often used in Good Guys Bad Guys that help define its distinctive look and feel. Interestingly, many of these were created in-camera, rather than in post-production. Craig Barden was this episode’s director of photography and Peter Carrodus its editor.

The Builders Arms is a real pub in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy and a recurring location in Good Guys – one of many locations that make the city a character in the show. To add to this, local band the Dumb Earth provides the soundtrack here. We also get a glimpse of Elvis in his car, a Valiant Charger – an important part of his character.
