clip Lookin' for a fight?

Clip description

Urged on by his ever optimistic alter ego (Sean Ohlendorf), the not-so-brave Fergus (Sean Ohlendorf) rescues asthmatic Lambert (Michael Harrison) from local bully Richmond (Marcus Costello) and his mate Declan (Steven Bahnsen). Saved by a wheelie bin, Fergus escapes in one piece… this time.

Curator’s notes

This clip introduces the other key male characters – the nerdy best friend, and the resident bully and his henchman. They fill out the cast required for much of the drama and humorous comeuppances in this teenage TV series. The other 'new’ character featured in this clip is Fergus II, Fergus’s more confident and assured alter ego who is invisible to the other characters. Fergus II is also played by Sean Ohlendorf and, with tight editing and the clever use of a body double, appears in the same shot as the daggy-but-lovable Fergus. In this scene, Fergus II is contrasted with Declan, offisder to the bully Richmond. Declan shadows his mate as Fergus II shadows Fergus, but Declan is only a 'yes man’ – he agrees with everything Richmond says and lacks Fergus’s courage and individuality.

The wheelie bin’s ‘escape’ behind the ute is a delightful comic moment, typical of the visual inventiveness of this series.
