clip She doesn’t deserve to be here!

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Heath (Adam Saunders) is introducing Fly (Sophie Luck) to the home where all the Solar Blue Surf Academy students will live together for the year, and Fly discovers she has arrived in the middle of a drama. Her new room mate, kiteboarder Anna (Mara Scherzinger), has disappeared after a furious public outburst from Bec (Kate Bell). Bec was protesting the German girl’s surprise inclusion in the surf school to school leader Simo (Martin Lynes).

Curator’s notes

This clip summarises the backstory to Anna’s situation in this episode. It adopts interesting camera and editing techniques to tell the story in a novel way, including the ‘big fat rewind button’ that Bec wishes she had, to fast forward and rewind through different parts of the story.

The sequence showcases the talents of Bec (Kate Bell), Fly (Sophie Luck) and Heath (Adam Saunders). Sophie Luck won the 2005 AFI Award for Best Young Actor for her role in the series, while 21-year-old Kate Bell quite convincingly plays a 15-year-old. These three young actors come back in leadership roles with a new young cast in the second series in 2006, and Kate Bell also returns for series three in 2007.
