The scheduled move of Adaminaby begins, with the first house taking a bit longer than expected.

The first of the three towns to be moved by the Snowy Mountains Scheme, to make way for reservoirs, was Adaminaby in 1958. The relocation was only one small part of the huge and complex scheme, so the schedule had to be maintained. There was no way of anticipating the wettest season for 51 years. The rain and melting snow caused sludge and mud, and as a result, the first house to be moved took six days to get to the new location, only 9.5km away.
