Clip description

Claire (Sigrid Thornton) describes what she saw on the day of the incident. In flashback, she hears a commotion outside her home and sees Wayne (Luke Ford) smashing his car into her husband’s Jaguar, while Greg (Vince Colosimo) is still at the wheel. After Wayne threatens her husband, she rushes to the Jaguar where Greg sits inert, as though dead.

This sequence gives a sense of how the story pivots between the conference room scenes and flashbacks that offer differing personal perspectives on the case. We learn of two different consequences of Wayne’s actions – the immediate shock it caused and the longer-term distress, including Greg’s inability to sleep. Violence seriously affects not just the immediate victim but also their loved ones.

The sequence follows an earlier flashback that depicted the car-smashing from Greg and Wayne’s viewpoints. It was shot using close-ups, largely from inside or in close proximity to the vehicles. Here, since Claire is standing further back and not in either car, we get a broader and seemingly more objective perspective.
