Clip description

HMS Warrior was built by the British in 1860 to be the most advanced and deadly warship of its time. She carried 26 guns, was fuelled by coal and could sail at 14 knots. The Warrior heralded a new arms race in Europe.

Curator’s notes

Great use of footage of the still existing warship which, along with stills and interviews with naval experts, gives us a real sense of the vessel and the effect it must have had at the time.
