Clip description

This is an Australia Post television commercial (TVC) promoting the Faxpost service, using the slogan: ‘Faxpost – Everyone’s fax’. A document slides out of a fax machine displaying the words, ‘To send a fax to someone without a fax machine, fax it to Australia Post.’ The document then drops through a letterbox, indicating that once Australia Post receives the fax, it hand delivers it to the recipient.

Curator’s notes

By 1989 most businesses, large and small, owned fax machines and maintained a dedicated telephone line to incoming and outgoing facsimile transmissions. However it would not be until a few years later that fax machines became affordable for private individuals and households. The idea of the ad is simple, and it is concisely realised. It was produced for Australia Post by McCann Erickson and RIP, and on-lined on 11 May 1989 at AAV (AAV’s digital media services are now part of the Omnilab Media Group).
