Clip description

The artist explains that he thought his use of the image, including his choice of colours, was pretty harmless, but the traditional owners highlight the laws and customs surrounding the reproduction of the Wandjina imagery including the use of colour.

Curator’s notes

This clip exposes the vulnerable position Aboriginal custodians find themselves in as they strive to protect their cultural heritage from misappropriation and misuse. 'If we lose it,’ a traditional owner says, 'well, our country dies away too. No spirit in it.’
