Original classification rating: MA. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Hakim (Robert Rabiah) reveals he has been the butt of racist practical jokes and insults by his colleagues.

Curator’s notes

The clip illustrates how the dynamics of the session keep shifting as differing workplace power relationships and personal resentments come into focus.

There’s irony here: Hakim is one of the employees formerly accused of playing cruel jokes on Wayne, and now he’s revealing that he too has been the victim of thoughtless insults, this time with a nasty racist angle.

Note the look of embarrassment on the faces of his colleagues – they clearly recognise in retrospect that what they did was wrong. The embarrassment is acutely obvious on the face of Richard (Chris Connelly), who is seated uncomfortably close to Hakim. As the foreman he was responsible for stopping such behaviour.
