Year of the Dogs (1997)
A year in the life of the Footscray Football Club. The Bulldogs haven’t won a premiership since 1954. They fight back with the threat of amalgamation hanging over them. The documentary takes us to the boardroom, the change room, the fans and the matches.
This very entertaining piece is not a sporting film but rather a delightful insight into the indomitable spirit of the underdog. The coach and the president of the club resign, the players sustain injuries and they constantly lose matches. The fans are unflinching in their loyalty. Producer and director Michael Cordell’s credits include Drama School, Bondi, Street Practice, The Track and Ken Done.
