Clip description

This clip shows colour 9.5mm footage of Sydney filmed by Frank Straford in 1958. It features scenes of Sydney Harbour, Circular Quay and the Hawkesbury River and includes a voice-over narration by Straford and an instrumental soundtrack.

Curator’s notes

This footage was taken during a cruise ship holiday on the SS Oronsay which took Frank Straford from Melbourne up the east coast of Australia and on to New Caledonia. It was his first overseas trip and his last amateur travelogue using 9.5mm stock. The voice-over narration and music was added to the footage by Straford and the travelogue was finished with the help of digital video in 2007.
