Australian Navy: Destroyers (c.1930)

Synopsis

This short documentary made by Herschells Films features Royal Australian Navy destroyers launching torpedoes with dummy warheads attached for training purposes. It also shows a smokescreen created by one of the vessels, Anzac, to safeguard the larger vessel, Success. Torpedoes are filmed with an ultra-rapid camera so they appear in slow motion on screen. Intertitles throughout the film describe the action.

Curator’s notes
