Sounds of Australia 2011

Federal Arts Minister Simon Crean has announced the 2011 additions to the Sounds of Australia National Registry of Recorded Sound and you can see the full list on the National Film and Sound Archive website.

It includes sounds recorded by female trailblazers in Australian political and cultural life: the first women elected to federal parliament, Dame Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney, and pop icon Kylie Minogue. You can hear complete recordings of Dame Enid Lyons: Maiden Speech (1944) and Senator Dorothy Tangney: Maiden Speech (1944), and an extract of Kylie Minogue’s number-one hit I Should Be So Lucky (1987), on ASO.

The rest of the new sounds will be added to ASO later in the year. In the meantime, listen to clips and read more about the existing Sounds of Australia collection.
