Oh, the horror!

As the vampire film Daybreakers is released in Australian cinemas this week, Richard Kuipers explores horror and the supernatural in Australian cinema in our new Horror Collection.

Local fans with an unquenchable thirst for blood can also lick their lips with the news that Australian director Alex Proyas is set to shoot Vampire Year Zero in Sydney in the next few months. The $100 million epic is rumoured to star man of the moment, Sam Worthington.

We also recently published Long Weekend (1978), the classic holiday fright film from director Colin Eggleston and writer Everett De Roche. For those who saw Not Quite Hollywood (2008) you’ll remember it as being one of Quentin Tarantino’s favourite Australian films.

Thirst feature film – 1979

Wolf Creek feature film – 2005

Long Weekend feature film – 1978
