A Trip Along the River Murray (1925)

  1. As part of my research for my book to be published in June 2015, "Harnessing the River Murray: stories of the people who built Locks 1 to 9, 1915-1935", I came across this file which I believe relates to this footage. Helen Stagg

    Letter from the Irrigation Commissioner to the Engineer in Chief
    Arrangements have been made by the Commonwealth Irrigation Department for two photographers to leave Adelaide on Saturday the 28th instant, motoring through Renmark and returning per launch "Alexandra" downriver, leaving on the morning of the 30th instant.
    The object is to secure a film of the River Murray in South Australia, which, we may presume, will include the various industries and works along the valley of the Murray. Of particular interest will be the preparation of the bridge work at Paringa, the 4 locks numbers 1 to 5 in the various stages from the completed lock to the work just commencing on number 2, a view of the granite quarries near Mannum, and the old and new bridges at Murray Bridge.
    I shall be pleased if you could advise me as to your views on the matter and of any assistance in facilitating the object for the trip as arranged. (Note on bottom in handwriting dated 23rd of March for the Constructing Engineer to inform the resident engineers and lock masters and to take any necessary action)
